Mambo is a social dance originating from Cuba. the dance style tTook shape in the 30s of the XX century. It is a fusion of swing and rhythm of Cuban music developed, which was the beginning of the mambo. The peak popularity of this dance was in the 40s and part of the 50s of the last century. Then it was replaced by the cha-cha dance and it lost it's popularity.
Currently, mambo is again gaining supporters through such films as Dirty Dancing and Dirty Dancing 2 (Havana Nights). Currently, what is meant under the name "Mambo" is primarily the NewYork-style salsa (so-called "Mambo on2").
Mambo is similar to samba in steps and actions. However it is more "soft".
